owh man.i got these awesome boots for NZD19.90 and i can really rock out in em coz i dun have a pair of skinny jeans.dammit!!!!
and i dun think i’ll be able to get skinnnys in my size coz,as the name implies, i think they are for skinny ppl.grrrr…
u know whats funny about fashion here?rempit style is in!!haha, the whole carrot cut, ripped clothes, black and white, punk look is the most dominant look among teens here.pretty much all of em wear those flat checkered sneaker/use some kind of accessory with a skull emblem on it/have hair that look like it hasnt been washed in years.quite nasty.
but the working women, they dress great.they are really fashionable and they do wear reallly flashy clothes to work.oh my god,u can kill someone with the kinds of heel these women wear.they walk around town in these awesome 2/3 inche stillts.damn wei,SO hot!!!!
college ppl are the most fashionablely diverse.
firstly,u have the hoodie/sweater ppl.these are the folks who kinda just get up from bed, wash their face, have a bowl of cereal, grab something from the closet(which is most of the time either a hoodie or a sweater) and walk out of the door.no thougts about fashion what so ever except maybe "hmmmm, should i wear this colour or this colour?".one god thing about these kind of ppl is their laid back approach to fashion shows that they are probably laid back ppl themselves so its not that hard to be friends.plus, they will probably always stay warm coz sweaters and hoodies here are designed to do that.sad part is,they will always look the smae, and their whole fashion potential is lost coz they end up being stuck in the sweater rut.
second group,we have asians!!!!ok this one is a bit tough coz under asian we have a couple of ethnic groups and withing those groups we have a couple of fashion group so its like subset of a subset.so,here we go
1) Chinese:
-we have the very cool pl who dress up aka harajuku style.they can be either japanese chinese or koren, but these girls go all out;fishnet stockings, short skirts, crazy hair, oversized bags, you name it they’ll try it.the harajuku guys are much milder.they dress up in a sense that emulates jay chou fashion.so they kinda lok like pop stars la;punk t-shirt under a black coat with cargo pants and punk shoes.
then we have the moderates.they dress sensibly as in withing the rules of fashion.this doesnt mean they are conservative either.please dont get the two mistaken.moderates know that fishnet stocking are for hookers and that chunky earrings do not need to be complimented by equallyc hunky necklaces.the moderate girls dress within different fashion genres ie one day mod twiggys inspired dress one day retro goldie hawn inspired outfit one day chic metropolitan lady style.they are usually the ones that make you go "wow,i love that outfit wei.."
then we have typical asian nerd style.these are,sad to say,an actual reality.i swear to god,i was walking thru camous one day and i saw a small group of these ppl.all of em had glasses, all of em had side parted their hair, all of em wore collared polo t-shirts and pants and all of them TUCKED their shirts in their pants.ive had very few encouters with these ppl so i dun ave enuff data to relay with effeiciency, how they dress.but wat ive commented so far can be a summary for them.
Indians
funny thing about Indians,i can only think of two groups;the wannabewhites and conservatives.the wannabewhites erase all sense of indian identification when they dress and they go all out.seriously,i mean u will probably never catch them in jeans coz its too dressed down.they either wear slacks,dresses/suits,pants of non-denim origins, holywood style make up,accessories that would make me jealous, you ge the pic rite?.they even try to sound white when they talk.some actually do sound white coz they grew up in predominantly white areas ie NZ,canada,US.but most just end up speaking like natve speakers for 75% of the time, and then they’ll say one word in an Indian accent, and that accent wont go away.it’s freaking funny!
then we have the conservatives.these ppl are the oposite of the wannabewhites.they retain a large portion of their indian heritage in their dressing.this varies with intensity.u will get some ladies actually walking in full punjabi suits or u might find some who wear indian kaftan like tops with jeans.some try to mix punjabi suit tops and scarf with jeans or wear indian style skirts with western conservative tops.watever it is,their dressing usually reflect the conservative ideas of indian society.i like this group of ppl better coz they are just nicer and they are light hearted and easy going.
malaysian
it has to be noted that even the malaysian contingent is predominantly malay,i have incorporated the other races in here as well because we all seem to have simliar values and this is kinda reflected in our dressing sense.the most favourite clothing option amongst malysians is the jeans.almost all of us wear jeans to class.however, even within this category, there are certain distinctions.firstly, there are the ppl who actually think outfits to wear for the day.these ppl make meticulous preparations with regards to their outifts.this boils down to planning what accessories match their outfit.these types of ppl will try a variety of styles so dresses are not excluded from their definition of day clothes.second we have the laid back.they dress cleverly in the sense that they take into account enviromantal factors rather than only fashion.they are the ones who come to class with sweaters and coats to keep them warm, wear practical shoe so they wont hurt their feet and use backpack coz handbags just dont hold enough stuff.then we have the top and pants combo ppl.they dont really care what they look lie as long as they get to class and back without being arrested for indecent exposure.these are the kinds of pl who might be spotted wearing the same top two times in a week coz "it wasnt dirty enuff to be washed so pakai je la rite?".accesorries and make up ar minimal or non existant.
even though i have made these categories,it is possible for anyone to fall into another group by accident or by choice. i e if i feel lazy to dress up,i might just pull on a sweater and go to class or i might decide not to wear any accessories or i dont see the point in dressing up if the weather looks bad.these categories are not fixed and there are intersections between many of the groups.but this should give a rough idea of what uni life looks like, literally speaking.
